Netherlands proxies

Netherlands proxies route requests through Dutch residential and ISP IPs, with city targeting in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Among EU countries only Ireland had a higher share of recent online shoppers in Eurostat's 2025 survey, the consumer authority actively checks discount claims, and Amsterdam's percentage-based tourist tax shapes hotel prices.

The short answer

  • 86.4% of people aged 16–74 in the Netherlands bought online in the three months before Eurostat's 2025 survey, second in the EU after Ireland and well above the EU figure of 62.4%.
  • In a 2025 check the ACM found one or more misleading price statements at 18 of 24 sellers examined, mostly around 'was' prices. Store reference prices exactly as shown.
  • Amsterdam's tourist tax under its 2024 ordinance is 12.5% of the overnight price, which matters when comparing hotel rates with other cities.
  • The Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens supervises the GDPR and the Dutch implementation act (UAVG).

What teams collect in the Netherlands

Price monitoring

Retail platforms such as bol.com and comparison sites such as Tweakers Pricewatch make Dutch electronics pricing highly transparent. Collect seller, price and the 'van' (was) price where shown; electronics price monitoring covers model matching.

Travel fares

Amsterdam hotel rates need the tourist tax handled explicitly: check whether a quoted rate includes it and normalise before comparing with Rotterdam or other European cities. See hotel rate shopping.

Real estate & jobs

Housing listings on portals such as Funda in Amsterdam and Rotterdam can change status within days. Collect per city and store asking price and listing status per snapshot; see real estate listings.

Lead generation

Dutch business directories and maps listings are a common starting point for B2B prospecting in the Benelux. Business directories covers which public fields to keep.

AI training data

Dutch is a smaller language than English, German or French in most general web crawls, so teams building multilingual sets often collect it deliberately. Multilingual corpora covers balancing smaller languages.

Online shopping in the Netherlands compared with the EU

MeasureNetherlandsEU 27Source
Bought online in the last 3 months (16–74), 202586.4%62.4%Eurostat
Same measure, 202486.7%60.2%Eurostat
Online retail turnover, change on a year earlier+6.2%—CBS, August 2026
Webshop turnover, change on a year earlier+7.0%—CBS, August 2026

With adoption this high, Dutch online prices are close to the whole market for many categories, which makes the Netherlands a useful benchmark when comparing European markets. CBS distinguishes webshops (businesses whose main activity is selling online) from the online turnover of retailers in general; mirror that split when you classify sellers.

Discount claims under ACM scrutiny

The Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) reported in November 2025 that it still saw many misleading discounts, particularly online with the 'van' price, the price a product was supposedly reduced from. Of 24 sellers examined, 18 had one or more misleading price statements, and the ACM noted it can impose sanctions.

If you track discounts in the Netherlands, collect the current price, the 'van' price and your own observed history. A 'van' price that your history never saw is the pattern the ACM describes, and documenting it is ordinary price monitoring rather than anything exotic.

Amsterdam's tourist tax and hotel price comparisons

Amsterdam's Verordening Toeristenbelasting 2024 sets the tax at 12.5% of the overnight price. Because it is a percentage, it scales with the rate, unlike per-person flat taxes in many other cities. Some booking pages include it in the displayed total, others add it at the property; record which, and normalise to one basis before comparing Amsterdam with Rotterdam or with other capitals.

The Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens and Dutch locale

The Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (AP) supervises the GDPR and the Uitvoeringswet AVG (UAVG), the Dutch act that fills in the GDPR's national options. Listings from private individuals on classifieds such as Marktplaats can include names and contact details; leave them out unless needed and follow our acceptable use policy. Not legal advice.

FAQ

Questions

Something not covered? Write to contact@arcproxies.io.

Can I target Rotterdam rather than Amsterdam?

Yes. Amsterdam and Rotterdam are the two Dutch city targets. Utrecht, The Hague and Eindhoven are not; use Netherlands country targeting for those.

Are Dutch mobile proxies available?

No. ARC Mobile exits are only in Germany, the UK, the US and Japan. Use residential exits with mobile device signals for Dutch mobile-web pages.

Will a Dutch exit show Belgian prices on a Benelux shop?

Not reliably. Shops serving both countries often split by domain (.nl and .be) and by language; a Dutch exit plus nl-NL usually lands on the Dutch shop. Store domain and country per row.

Is the Amsterdam tourist tax included in hotel prices I collect?

It depends on the site. Record whether each rate includes it, and convert to a common basis before comparing cities. The rate under the 2024 ordinance is 12.5% of the overnight price.
