Proxies for alternative data in finance
A signal is only tradeable if the series is consistent. Collect the same public pages from the same markets on the same schedule, and pay per gigabyte so a backfill and a daily run come out of the same balance.

The problem
What goes wrong without the right IPs
A gap in the series is worse than a delay
A day missing because one IP was limited breaks the comparison you built the factor on. Spreading a run across a pool makes a blocked exit a retry rather than a hole.
The page you store is not the page the market saw
Listings, prices and availability are geo-ranked. Collect a US retailer from Frankfurt and the series tracks the export storefront, not the one that moves the numbers.
Backfills are spiky by nature
Re-running two years of history in a week is a burst that a monthly allowance handles badly. A balance that does not expire absorbs the burst and waits for the daily cadence afterwards.
Vendor risk is a real line in the diligence pack
A one-time purchase from an EU company with a VAT invoice is easier to place in a vendor review than a rolling subscription with an auto-renew clause.
Timestamps need to mean something
If the collection window drifts because retries queue behind one address, the series carries a timing artefact you will later mistake for signal.
Setup
Recommended setup
Treat the daily cadence and the backfill as the same workload on different rungs of the same ladder.
| Plan | Role | Session | Targeting | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
ARC Fast Rotating residential | Default for the daily series Residential exits in the market you are modelling, held long enough that a multi-page fetch of one listing stays on one IP and reads as one visit. | Sticky per source, 10 minutes | Country + city | €2.00 / GB €1.12 at 1 TB (−44%) |
ARC Basic Rotating ISP | For high-volume, low-protection sources Our lowest price per GB. Public registries, filings and plain listing pages rarely need a consumer IP, and at backfill volume the difference compounds. | Rotating | Country | €0.75 / GB €0.59 at 1 TB (−21%) |
ARC Ultra Premium residential | For the sources the factor depends on Premium residential where a missed day is expensive. Route the handful of sources that carry the signal, not the whole crawl. | Sticky per source | Country + city | €3.50 / GB €2.17 at 1 TB (−38%) |
Prices are list prices in EUR, excl. VAT. Volume discounts apply automatically at checkout — full ladder on the pricing page.

An illustration with round numbers — your pages, payloads and retry rate will differ. The arithmetic is the real price ladder.
Assumptions
- Entities tracked
- 5,000
- Markets
- 4 (US, GB, DE, FR)
- Cadence
- once a day
- Page weight
- 200 KB, images blocked
- Bandwidth per month
- ≈ 120 GB
On ARC Fast
€163.20per month, excl. VAT
120 GB bought in one purchase at €1.36 / GB (−32% volume rung, applied automatically).
The same 120 GB on ARC Basic: €81.60 at €0.68 / GB. Move down as soon as the cheaper pool holds up.
A twelve-month backfill of the same panel is roughly twelve times this bandwidth — bought in one checkout it lands far down the ladder, and what the backfill does not use funds the daily run.
Bandwidth never expires, so a bigger single purchase is only ever cheaper per GB. See the ladder.
