Proxies for real-estate and job-market data

Property portals and job boards rank by where the visitor is, and often refuse to show a national view at all. Collect each metro from an IP inside it so your index reflects the local market rather than your server's postcode.

The problem

What goes wrong without the right IPs

The default view is local, not national

Open a portal from Frankfurt and you get Frankfurt. Building a national index from one location means the long tail of smaller markets is either missing or ranked as an afterthought.

Currency, unit and language switch on you

Square metres become square feet, prices switch currency, and the listing template changes with the locale. Normalising afterwards is guesswork; collecting from the right market avoids it.

Salary bands are shown regionally

Job boards adjust posted ranges, and sometimes whether a range is shown at all, by the visitor's region. A single collection point flattens exactly the variable you wanted to measure.

Refresh cadence is the product

A listing index is only worth what its freshness is. Daily refresh across dozens of metros is a bandwidth question, which is why the price per GB decides whether the coverage is affordable.

Listings vanish

A property goes under offer and the page disappears. If the run that would have caught it queued behind a rate-limited address, the gap is permanent — there is nothing to re-fetch.

Setup

Recommended setup

City targeting is what makes this work, so stay on the rotating pools — ARC Mobile has no city targeting.

Default for listing pages
Listing and search-result pages are mostly HTML, and ARC Basic carries city targeting at our lowest price per GB. This is where the bulk of a daily refresh belongs.

450 GB bought in one purchase at €0.65 / GB (−13% volume rung, applied automatically).

The same 450 GB on ARC Fast: €558.00 at €1.24 / GB. Route only the jobs that need it through the pricier pool.

Images are the whole cost story here. Blocking them on the listing pages and fetching them only for the records you keep is usually the difference between an affordable index and an unaffordable one.

Bandwidth never expires, so a bigger single purchase is only ever cheaper per GB. See the ladder.
