Hong Kong proxies

Hong Kong proxies route requests through Hong Kong residential and ISP IPs; the territory is a single metro, so the country target and the city target reach the same market. What makes it distinct is a bilingual web, a currency held in a narrow band against the US dollar and a retail sector still mostly offline.

The short answer

  • Online sales were 8.7% of Hong Kong's retail sales value in August 2026 and grew 9.9% year on year (Census and Statistics Department).
  • The Hong Kong dollar is held within HK$7.75–7.85 per US dollar under the Linked Exchange Rate System, so HKD prices barely move against USD for currency reasons alone.
  • Chinese and English are both official languages; many sites serve Traditional Chinese and English editions with different promotions.
  • Personal data is governed by the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486), overseen by the PCPD.

Local work

What teams collect in Hong Kong

Price monitoring

Hong Kong electronics shops compete on price in HK$, and local comparison sites such as Price.com.hk list shop-by-shop prices. Collect from a Hong Kong exit in HK$; electronics price monitoring covers matching models across shops.

SEO & SERP

Results for the same query differ between zh-HK, zh-TW and en interfaces. Brands selling across Greater China track Hong Kong separately; see international rank tracking.

Travel fares

Hong Kong is a point of sale in its own right for flights and hotels across Asia. Pricing the same itinerary from Hong Kong and from other markets is the core of airline fare collection.

Real estate & jobs

Property portals publish asking prices and rents by district and estate, often with saleable area as a separate figure. Store saleable and gross area separately, since price per square foot depends on which one is used.

Market research

Public discussion in Hong Kong mixes Cantonese written in Traditional characters with English. Language detection tuned on Mandarin text misclassifies it; social listening covers public-only collection.

In depth

The Hong Kong market, for data teams

A single-city market with two languages

Article 9 of the Basic Law provides that, in addition to Chinese, English may be used as an official language by the executive, legislature and judiciary. Commercial sites follow suit: banks, retailers, airlines and property portals usually offer a Traditional Chinese and an English interface, and the two can carry different campaigns.

Because Hong Kong is one metro, the city token adds nothing over the country token. The useful split is by language and edition, not by location.

SettingHong Kong valueNote
Accept-Languagezh-HK or en-HKCollect both editions if promotions differ
ScriptTraditional ChineseNot Simplified; zh-CN gets mainland editions
CurrencyHKD (HK$)Some sites also quote in USD or CNY; keep the currency per row
Time zoneAsia/Hong_Kong (HKT)No daylight saving time

The Hong Kong dollar and cross-market comparisons

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority's Linked Exchange Rate System keeps the Hong Kong dollar within HK$7.75–7.85 to one US dollar. For anyone comparing prices across markets this is convenient: a gap between Hong Kong and US prices on the same product is almost entirely pricing, not exchange-rate noise. Against yen, euro or renminbi prices you still need a dated FX rate per observation, as described in comparing prices across markets.

Hong Kong retail and internet use in numbers

Near-universal internet use next to a single-digit online retail share is the defining contrast: most retail spending still happens in shops. Where a retailer's site shows both a web price and an in-store price, keep them as different fields.

The PDPO and the Privacy Commissioner

The Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486) is overseen by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD), an independent statutory body. Product, fare and listing data are outside its scope; names, phone numbers and agent details on listings are personal data.

Collect public pages only, drop personal fields you do not need, and follow our acceptable use policy. This is a summary, not legal advice.

FAQ

Questions

Something not covered? Write to contact@arcproxies.io.

Can I target Kowloon or a specific district?

No. Hong Kong is a single metro target; there is no district-level targeting. For district-specific listings, filter on the site itself.

Are mobile proxies available in Hong Kong?

No. ARC Mobile exits are limited to Germany, the UK, the US and Japan. Use residential exits with mobile device signals for mobile-web pages in Hong Kong.

Will a Hong Kong IP show me mainland China prices?

No. Hong Kong sites and mainland sites are separate markets with separate currencies, and we have no mainland China exits. Hong Kong exits are for the Hong Kong market.

Which edition should I collect, Chinese or English?

Both, if promotions or stock differ, and store the language as a column. Send zh-HK or en-HK explicitly so the site does not guess from the IP.
